Certainly a popular question I have been asked of late. And although I enjoy leaving a little intrigue, the inspiration behind the title of my blog, The Blank Slate, is a pretty good story...
First off, it has absolutely nothing to do with Taylor Swift's obnoxiously catchy hit song, "Blank Space".
So I'm sorry Taylor, you won't be able to cash in on this catchphrase.
I've always wanted to start my own design blog and website. However, like many things on those ever so looming To Do lists, I never quite got around to it. I would end up on blog hosting sites to start the website building process. After messing around with ideas and templates, hitting the red X on my browser seemed like a better direction. The "having your own blog and website" plan got shoved to the back corners of my creative mind.
Fast forward to last summer...
A bit of a career crisis, a dash of heartbreak, several challenges and wake up calls later, I was in dire need of a fresh start, a new beginning (see where I'm going with this?)
Instead of feeling defeated, I made some major decisions and changes. I got to work on all my blank slates:
This blog and website.
My personal and professional life.
My projects and designs.
The adventures and opportunities.
The Blank Slate represents creating and innovating, starting over, conquering your fears and challenges. Whether your Blank Slate is redecorating a space in your home or redecorating a particular area of your life.
Now that this website and blog project of mine is up and running, one big, perfect example of a Blank Slate is my new condo. My lovely roommate, Rio and I have only been moved in since December. And we walked in with just the very little bit of essentials we had. The most important items being the items to fill our fabulous walk in closets. But truly, not much else.
Although, it's tough for a designer (a sometimes impatient one) like myself to walk into a slightly empty home with a mismatch collection of DIY pieces and design hungry spaces, this is one Blank Slate I'm happy to be able to give my own space some love! Finally.
Best of all, I can't wait to showcase this whole process with you all.
